Description	:	LaVern Kenneth Tjaden was born December 31, 1924 near Anamosa, Iowa, son of Edward William and Mary Josephine (Greenwood) Tjaden. He was baptized on January 25, 1925 in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa and on October 20, 1940, was confirmed at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. LaVern attended grade schools in Scotch Grove and graduated from Onslow High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948, serving in Japan. Read More	LaVern Kenneth Tjaden was born December 31, 1924 near Anamosa, Iowa, son of Edward William and Mary Josephine (Greenwood) Tjaden. He was baptized on January 25, 1925 in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa and on October 20, 1940, was confirmed at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. LaVern attended grade schools in Scotch Grove and graduated from Onslow High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948, serving in Japan. He married Betty Newhard on February 17, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, Iowa. He started farming in 1948 with his brothers, Edward Jr. and Dale, in 1950, LaVern bought a farm near Olin. He & Betty farmed for many years in Jones County, retiring in 1985, and then moved to Wyoming. He was a member of Little Bear County Club in Wyoming. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing, baseball, football, basketball and was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed farming and loved his grandchildren and went to their various activities. LaVern is survived by his wife, Betty Tjaden of Wyoming; 2 sons, Steven (Debora) Tjaden of Wyoming and Marvin (Sandra) Tjaden of Kasson, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren, which he took much pride in, Christy and Caitlin of Kasson, Minnesota, and Stacey and Darcey of Wyoming, Iowa; two sisters, Frances (Paul) Andre of Shakopee, Minnesota, and JoAnn (Glenn) Smith of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Eldon Tjaden and a sister-in-law, Agnes Tjaden, both of Monticello He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, Helen on December 7, 2007, and two brothers.
