As a young boy he attended country school south of Milford and helped his father farm. LaVern accepted Christ as his personal savior in his youth and became a long-time faithful member of Milford Mennonite Church. On April 11, 1937, he was united in marriage to Ruth Reil and to this union five sons, Larry, Kenneth, John, David and Virgil were born. LaVern operated a gas station for a time on the west side of Milford on Highway 6. They made their home on a farm southwest of Milford until June of 1980 when they retired and moved into Milford. For several years while farming, he operated "Kremer Seed and Feed", providing seed and feed supplies to area farmers as well as PVC pipe, farm equipment and also did custom farm work. LaVern and spent several winters in Congress, Arizona, eventually purchasing a home and spending most of their time there until 2003 when they returned to Milford and made their home at Sunrise Country Manor. In his spare time, LaVern enjoyed going to the flea markets in Arizona and in New Orleans during Mardi Gras he distributed gospel tracts for 35 years. LaVern is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ila Kremer, Congress, AZ, Kenneth and Dorothy Kremer, Milford, John and Marge Kremer, Lincoln, David and Patsy Kremer, Page, NE and Virgil and Karen Kremer of Milford; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Arlene Kremer, Chandler, AZ, Elva Reil, Milford, Dorothy Reil, Lebanon, OR, Martha Reil of Colorado Springs, CO and Sylvia Riley, Friend, NE, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ella Kremer, his wife, Ruth on April 11, 2007, and two brothers, Bernard and Richard Kremer. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Milford Mennonite Church with Pastor Timothy Springer officiating. Interment was in Milford Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family receiving friends and relatives from 6-8:00 p.m. at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford. Viewing also 1 hour prior to services at church on Saturday. Memorials have been established to the Milford Mennonite Church. Pallbearers are Timothy, Richard, Darrin, Lucas, James, Brent, Jef, Mat, and Chad Kremer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford.
