Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks, with the Rev. Richard Whiteing officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery near Clarks. Mrs. Dittmer was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Lloyd and Margaret (Braun) Bartholomew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on May 30, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on May 30, 2003. Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tom and Cheryl Dittmer of Columbus, Kenny Dittmer of Clarks and Bill and Sandra Dittmer of Hastings; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert Bartholomew and Lloyd Jr. and Phyllis Bartholomew, all of Columbus. Also surviving are six grandsons, Joshua, Justin, Jacob, Kody, William and Jackson Dittmer; and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Graham of Silver Creek, Betty Wyman and Ruth Jones, both of Osceola; and one brother-in-law, Dennis Jasper of Stromsburg. In her early years the family lived in Yankton, S.D., and they moved to Columbus where Laverna graduated from Columbus High School in 1957. On Feb. 6, 1965, she was united in marriage to Jack Dittmer at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. They made their home on the Dittmer family farm near Clarks. Laverna was a homemaker and later worked at Good Samaritan Home in Osceola, retiring after 24 years of service. Laverna was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks, where she taught catechism and belonged to the Altar Society and had served as president. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and served as president. Laverna enjoyed collecting dolls, cookie jars and bird houses. Also preceding Laverna in death were her parents.
