Description	:	LaVerna Marth Hassler was born to John and Laura (Thomsen) Due on November 16, 1920, at Exeter. She passed away on June 9, 1982, at York General Hospital, following an extended illness at the age of 61 years, six months, 24 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. LaVerna attended District 24 and graduated from Exeter high school in 1938. She taught for many years in several rural schools and at Fairmont and Friend public school. Read More	LaVerna Marth Hassler was born to John and Laura (Thomsen) Due on November 16, 1920, at Exeter. She passed away on June 9, 1982, at York General Hospital, following an extended illness at the age of 61 years, six months, 24 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. LaVerna attended District 24 and graduated from Exeter high school in 1938. She taught for many years in several rural schools and at Fairmont and Friend public school. Her weekly column, "Patchwork Prairie Country," appeared in the Lincoln Star for 22 years. In 1979, LaVerna contributed her writing talent by serving on Exeter's Centennial committee which published the book, "They Called It Exeter." She was united in marriage to George William Hassler on June 21, 1941, at Little Rock, Ar. They lived on a farm near Fairmont until moving to Exeter eight years ago. She is survived by her husband, George William Hassler of Exeter; one sister, Florence (Mrs. Howard) Hall; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister. Her love of nature was expressed in many of her articles and poems--and her flower garden was one of her greatest enjoyments. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Friday June 11, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova, by the Rev. Paul Konig. Pallbearers were six nephews: James Geiger, Dennis Hall, Kent Hall, Mark Hassler, Pat Hassler and Paul Hassler. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal June 17th, 1982 page 18.
