Mundt were made to experience this Tuesday evening when their eldest and much beloved daughter, Laverna, fell a victim of this foe of mankind at 10:30. Mundt were made to experience this Tuesday evening when their eldest and much beloved daughter, Laverna, fell a victim of this foe of mankind at 10:30. Laverna had been seriously sick for only a few days, no one realizing the seriousness of her condition until Tuesday afternoon when a consultation of doctors were held, and her case was diagnosed as general peritonitis. As a last resort a surgical operation was performed at 5:00 o'clock. All that human hands could do was done, but nothing could stay the hand of death. Laverna was born east of Crete, January 14, 1915 as the oldest child of August Mundt and his wife, Amelia (nee) Meinke. On January 25 the same year she was made a dear child of God through holy Baptism. Her parents saw to it that she was instructed in the one thing needful; she was very regular in her attendance in Saturday and Sunday school. She was glad that she had reached the age and had acquired the knowledge for confirmation which took place June 3. And she also looked forward to her first Communion. But it never came. Instead of partaking of Communion the Lord took her into a very close and lasting communion with Him in heaven. She reached the age of 13 years, 4 months, and 28 days, being survived by her sorrowing parents, two sisters, three brothers, two grandmothers, grandfather, and other close and distant relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow (Friday afternoon) at 1:30 from the home and at 2:00 o'clock from the Lutheran church. Burial will be made in the Kramer cemetery.
