Description	:	LaVerne Adelle Tharp, 92, of Ottumwa, formerly of Bloomfield, died March 25, 2012, at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. She was born March 13, 1920, in Preston to Harry Sylvester and Hattie Christine Schroeder Paup. She married Roe Donald Tharp June 8, 1946, in Preston. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 2009. She was an elementary school teacher for several years and a homemaker. She was born March 13, 1920, in Preston to Harry Sylvester and Hattie Christine Schroeder Paup. She married Roe Donald Tharp June 8, 1946, in Preston. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 2009. She was an elementary school teacher for several years and a homemaker. LaVerne was a member and served on many committees for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bloomfield and the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. While living in Bloomfield she was active in women's clubs, band boosters and was also a 4-H leader. She is survived by a son, David(Nancy)Tharp of Blue Springs, Mo.; three daughters, Mary(Tim Donovan)Tharp of Montpelier, Vt., Verlee(Bob)Hitzhusen of Bend, Ore., and Beverly Mattingly of Lancaster, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Zeb(Aubrey)Tharp, Robin(Danny)Gammon, Kathryn Donovan, Patrick Donovan, Paul(Sarah)Hitzhusen, Mark Hitzhusen, Scott(Kirsten)Mattingly and Marcia Mattingly; and two great-granddaughters, Ella Gammon and Anna Hitzhusen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Claribel Larson and Opal Mohr; and a brother, Herbert Paup. Memorial services will be 11 am Saturday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bloomfield; with Pastor Brian Gentz officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Hospice of Central Iowa. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is assisting the family.
