Description	:	LaVerne Marie Edlund, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. LaVerne was born on August 6, 1914 on the family farm north of Loomis in the Westmark Township of Phelps County, the youngest of two children born to Fred and Esther (Eliason) Edlund. LaVerne received her primary education from District #46 through elementary grades and then Looms High School, where she graduated with the class of 1931. Read More	LaVerne Marie Edlund, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. LaVerne was born on August 6, 1914 on the family farm north of Loomis in the Westmark Township of Phelps County, the youngest of two children born to Fred and Esther (Eliason) Edlund. LaVerne received her primary education from District #46 through elementary grades and then Looms High School, where she graduated with the class of 1931. LaVerne then attended Kearney Norman School, where she received her teaching certificate. LaVerne taught at Districts #46, #30, #45 and #21 and Loomis Public Schools in the elementary grade levels. She then retired from teaching and returned to the farm to assist her family. LaVerne attended the Westmark Evangelical Free Church, where she had a special interest in the Sunday School program and was the teacher of the Beginner's Department, which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed music and sang in the church choir and also sang in and was the pianist for several quartets and duets. LaVerne was also active with the Women's Missionary Society. LaVerne enjoyed writing letters to missionaries and was interested in World Vision, where she sponsored children in foreign countries for over 40 years. She also had an interest in sewing and embroidery. Her yard was always decorated with flowers and enjoyed being on the flower committee to provide flowers at the church. LaVerne, her parents and brother, Maurice loved the State of Nebraska. They took trips to all parts of the state and the Phelps County Fair and State Fair were two of their favorite events as well. They also enjoyed attending many parades and other celebrations. Besides her parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by her brother, Maurice in 2003. She leaves to mourn her passing her cousin, Alyce Anderson of Holdrege and a host of other relatives and friends.
