Read More	SOURCE: THE ANAMOSA EUREKA..DECEMBER 22, 1955.....PAGE 9 Streatreamimer Kills 2 Men Saturday At Crossing Near Hale Laverne Von Sprecken, Jackie McCammant, Of Olin Hit by Challenger HALE - Two Jones county men were, killed instantly when the truck they were riding in was hit by a fast stream liner on the Milwaukee railroad tracks about one mile east of Hale Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Killed were Laverne Von Sprecken; 34, Hale and Jackie McCammant, Olin, Jones, county Coroner Howard Campbell declared the men's death was accidental. Bodies Found One body was thrown from the cab of the one ton truck and was found hanging over a fence by train officials. Body of the other man was still in the cab. Hurled down the track for about thirty feet, the truck cab and frame was then "tossed over an embankment. It was twisted and pried apart, the engine was torn from the frame and parts of the wreckage was discoved 250 feet on down the track. Residents Notified Train officials notified residents of the Hale vicinity before the West bound Challenger resumed its run. It is the first mishap in volving the newly combined Union Pacific and Milwaukee train service. Private Crossing Used Made up of Milwaukee midwest Hiawatha cars and Union Pacific Challenger cars, the Challenger runs between Chicago and the west coast. No estimate was available of the spdeed of the train at the time of the collision. Von Sprecken and McCammant were crossing in the track on a private road from a field rented by, Von Sprecken to reach an area along the Wapsipinicon river, where they were logging. VonSprecken was married and leaves three children, two daughters, six and 10, and a son, three. Father Named Mc Cammant is the son of Harold McCammant, Olin, and a partner of his father in a logging operation. His body was taken to the Campbell home, Olin, and VonSprecken's to the Wallace funeral home in Wyoming. Von Sprecken was released from the hospital about a month ago. While he was confined, neighbors this fall harvested corn for him. His brother, Ervin D. in the army, was due to arrive in San Francisco, Saturday or Sunday after service overseas and to come home during a furlough.
