Church in Castalia for Mrs. Lavina Allen, 84, who passed away at the home of her daughter in Ossian on January 5. Interment was in the family lot at Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia. Rev. Harlan Snow officiated at the rites. The funeral was in charge of and directed by her oldest grandson, Phillip A. Schmitz. Mrs. Lavina Allen, daughter of Martin Albright and Mariah (Garvin) Albright was born in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, on February 4, 1867. She passed away on Saturday, January 5, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank J. Schmitz of Ossian, after an illness of eight months, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and one day. She was one of seven children. On November 24, 1886 she was united in marriage to Issac J. Allen at Decorah who passed away at Castalia on November 29, 1924. To this union seven children were born: Lynne J., who passed away June 29, 1912; Mrs. Frank (Mable) Schmitz of Ossian; Mrs. Frank (Marie) Cannon of Cresco; Mrs. George (Iva) Thompson of Dade City, Florida; Mildred Lorene, who passed away January 29, 1917; Mrs. Harold (Ethel) Harvey of Ossian and Mrs. Elmer (Esther) Schultz of Postville. Besides the children she leaves to mourn her loss 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Helmer of Lubbock, Texas and Mrs. Carrie Shafer and a brother, Elzie Albright, of Fayette, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; one in infancy, William and Charles Albright of Castalia. Her entire life, with the exception of eight years, has been spent in or near Castalia. She was a member of the Castalia E. U. B. church and Ladies Aid Society for over 50 years. Throughout her long illness she was always patient, never complaining of her lot, never giving up hope, but always looking ahead to being well and strong again. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends as a devoted mother and grandmother. Postville Herald newspaper clipping -------------------------
