Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. LaVon was born on June 30, 1921 to Walter and Josephine Julia Heyl on a farm near Alcester, South Dakota. LaVon was the eldest of three daughters, and was proud of the fact that she and her sisters helped her parents work their farm through the hard years of the Great Depression. Their help with the farm work was so important that LaVon had to drop out of school after the eighth grade to help on the farm full-time. When the hard financial times eased a few years later, LaVon went back to school, completed her high school degree, and then went on to nursing school to begin what would become a lifelong career in nursing. Her nursing career included serving for several years as Director of Nursing at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City.LaVon married Richard (Dick) Burg on May 22, 1948, at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, S.D. They had three daughters, Marsha, Susan, and Glenda. Her husband's career as an accountant in the meatpacking industry would move the family from Sioux City, Iowa, to Omaha, West Point, and Fremont, Neb., where they were living when they both retired from their respective careers. They then moved to Scottsbluff to be near children and grandchildren living in western Nebraska and eastern Colorado. They would celebrate 55 years of marriage before her husband Richard's death in 2003.Dick and LaVon Burg were quick to make friends in every community in which they lived. Many friends were made through their membership in the community's Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, other friendships through careers and participation in community activities. It was a rare Friday or Saturday evening that they were not out with friends. In their retirement, Dick's annual SeeBee reunions also became a source of several close and enduring friendships.She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, sister and brother-in-law Lois and Eldon Von Hagel, brother-in-law Arden Olson, and very recently by her beloved daughter Susan.She is survived by sister, Vergene Olson; daughters, Marsha (Richard) Meyer and Glenda (Richard) Foelsch; and grandchildren Cecilea, Bretton, and Elizabeth Meyer and Shelby and Morgan Foelsch.
