Description	:	Lavon Ruth Poppe, age 88, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born, the daughter of Otto and Gertrude (Peters) Miller, on September 25, 1924, in Butler County near Waverly. Lavon was baptized as an infant at Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ and later confirmed at Peace United Church of Christ. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1943. Read More	Lavon Ruth Poppe, age 88, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born, the daughter of Otto and Gertrude (Peters) Miller, on September 25, 1924, in Butler County near Waverly. Lavon was baptized as an infant at Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ and later confirmed at Peace United Church of Christ. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1943. Lavon was united in marriage with Harvey Poppe on January 5, 1944, at Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, Iowa. They lived in Louisiana, Texas and Pennsylvania before Harvey went overseas during WWII. She moved back home and lived with her parents until 1946, when Harvey returned, and they made their home in Waverly for the next two years. Lavon and Harvey moved to Clarksville in 1948 and opened Poppe’s Grocery and Lunch. They ran the store together for 25 years until they sold the store in 1972. Lavon was a faithful member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, and participated in the Women’s Fellowship. She was a member of the Clarksville AMVETS Auxiliary for over 50 years. Lavon and Harvey enjoyed traveling together and had visited all 50 states, Europe, Canada and Mexico. She also enjoyed knitting and quilting. Lavon died Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Poppe on March 22, 2008; her parents, two brothers, Lyle Miller and Larry Miller; one sister, Joice Dengler; two brothers-in-law, Galen Sinram and Willis Dengler; and one sister-in-law, Marlene Miller. Lavon is survived by her son, Gregory (Lyn) Poppe, of Suwanee, Georgia; one daughter, Dianne (Don) McCain, of Marietta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Rob) Kenny, Rachelle (Ned) Tognacci, Tiffany Poppe, Todd (Jennifer) Hirsch and Rod (DeAnn) Davis; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Margaret) Miller and Robert (Barbara) Miller both of Waverly; two sisters, Jeanette Sinram of Clarksville and Shirley (Harold) Bruns of Charles City; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Miller of Iowa Falls and Virginia Miller of Waverly. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July, 11, 2013, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319)278-4245, and one hour before services at the church.
