Purdy was born on May 3 1909 in Lost Nation Iowa to John A. Purdy and Emma (Spohn) Purdy. She was a 1930 Maquoketa Community High School graduate. She married Anton Jan on November 18 1931 in Rock Island Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1994. LaVone had worked on the crank line at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for over 33 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa since 1920. She enjoyed walking. LaVone is survived by: a son- Jackie Jan of Davenport IA; & a sister- Freda Lenhart of Maquoketa IA. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband a son- Bobbie Jan 2 sisters & 3 brothers.
