LaVonne was born on March 5, 1937, in Maxfield Township, the daughter of Lorenz and Bertha Koelling. She graduated from Denver High School and went on to earn her teaching degree from Wartburg College. She graduated from Denver High School and went on to earn her teaching degree from Wartburg College. LaVonne was a member of St. John's Maxfield Church, Denver, as well as Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ankeny. LaVonne is survived by her husband of 54 years, Wayne Bast of Ankeny, and their five children, Valerie Rice of Des Moines, Gregory Bast and his wife Jan of Goldfield, Lynnette Hastings and husband Dave of Ankeny, Dynelle Heinz and husband David of Lecanto, Fla., and Lisa Boes and husband Tony of Ankeny; her sister, Betty Young and husband Richard of Waverly; her brothers, Arlen Koelling and wife Jeanette of Sumner, and Harlen Koelling and wife Marilyn of Waverly; brother-in-law John Bast and wife Dixie; 16 grandchildren, Jason and Darcy Leerhoff, Brandon, Dillon, and Dalton Bast, Jessica, Courtney, Zachariah, Aubrey, and Harrison Hastings, Analise, Wesley, and Samuel Heinz, Jackson, Marina, and Tanner Boes; and three great grandchildren, Skyler, JaLeigh, and Dayson. Funeral services for Mrs. Bast will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at St. John's Maxfield Lutheran Church, Denver. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of services. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
