Description	:	LaVonne "Bonnie" Mayer, age 81, passed away on April 7, 2006 in her home in Riceville, Iowa surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mass of resurrection was held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday April 11, 2006 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, Iowa with Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Riceville. LaVonne was born on March 31, 1925 in Decorah, IA to Mel and Viola Zahasky Woldrum. On August 11, 1943 she married Charles Mayer and to this union seven children were born. LaVonne was a dedicated wife, mother, and hard-worker. She started her career as an assistant to Dr. T.G. Walker at the Riceville Hospital and later became the Administrator at the Riceville Community Rest Home from 1970 -1989. LaVonne's family and friends will always remember her for being strong, faithful, and loving to everyone she knew. She enjoyed outings with her family, cooking big meals, listening to country music, and most of all, giving her love to anyone who knew her. She had a certain presence that lit up the room, and above all, the ability to make people feel special. Those left to cherish her memory are her seven children: Donna (John) Adams of Mazeppa, MN; Sue (Jerry) Lee of Riceville, IA; Linda (Chuck) Weida of Riceville, IA; Cheryl (Alvin Knode) Julius of Chester, IA; Margaret (Allen) McKenna of Riceville, IA; Rick (Janine) Mayer of Lime Springs, IA; and Mike (Deb) Mayer of Lakeville, MN; 18 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She is survived by many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mayer in 1989; her parents, Mel and Viola Woldrum; her biological father, Emmet Haeber; and her sister Bernice Butz.
