Metzler, age 93, of E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio, died Friday, April 8, 2011, at Jefferson Health Care in Jefferson. He was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Dorset Township, Ohio, the son of John A. and Katherine (Leiby) Metzler and had been a lifetime area resident. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He drove truck for over 40 years with various companies in the Ashtabula County area. He was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church; the Tuscan Lodge #342 F & AM, Jefferson Chapter #141 Royal Arch Masons, Conneaut Council #40, Cache Commandry #27. Rose Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star and an over 50 year member of the Denmark Grange. He had served 11 times as head of various Masonic bodies and was the first person in Ohio to serve as head of the Masonic bodies twice, which was the Knight York Cross of Honor. He enjoyed gardening, wood working in which he built his own home and he was also a bee keeper. Surviving him are his wife, Lola (Hayslett) Metzler whom he married July 17, 1959; a son, Lee A. Metzler of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Marian Kemp of Jefferson. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 12th, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman, of Jefferson United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Geneva VFW Post #6846. Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 11th, at the Funeral Home, with Tuscan Lodge #342 conducting Masonic Rites at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E.
