He was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ. Survivors include four sons, Russell Nelson of Elliott, Leroy Nelson of Fontanelle, Cecil Nelson of Des Moines , and Norman Nelson of Anaheim, California; three daughters Dorothy Elwood and Janet Hunt, both of Elliott, and Kathryn Whitehouse of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Vinah Marshall of Glendora, California.
