MUSCATINE, Iowa—Lawrence ‘Larry' E. Kaska, 79, of Muscatine, died on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Trinity Hospital – Muscatine. The Reverend Jason Crossen of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish will officiate. Honorary bearers will be his granddaughters, Vanessa Proehl, Breanna Cory, Lindsey Kanis, Kelsey Hetzler, and Tammy Shipp. Casket bearers will be his grandsons, Sean VanAuken, Cody Kaska, Casey Kaska, Daniel Beeding, Chris Cory, Matt Shipp and Clyde Farmer. A funeral luncheon will be held at Gannon Hall following the committal service. Memorials may be made to the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish. Larry was born on Aug. 24, 1933, in Pleasant Plain, the son of Frank M. and Helen Zaharris Kaska. He married Dorothy Lasek on April 16, 1955, at the St. Mary Church in Iowa City. He was a master plumber and along with his sons they owned and operated Kaska Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish and the Knights of Columbus Laurent Council No. 1305, where he attained the Fourth Degree. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the winter months for over 20 years. He also founded the first girls' softball team and was their coach and also coached boys basketball as well. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorothy Kaska of Letts; two sons, Lawrence Duane Kaska and wife, Dawn, of Muscatine, and Dwight A. Kaska and wife, Pam, of Muscatine; three daughters, Angela McDonough and husband, Mike, of Monticello, Judith A. Kanis and husband, Bryan, of Altoona, and Cindy Kaska of Muscatine; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ardell Kaska and wife, Lyola, of Fairfield, Walter Kaska and wife, Lois, of Denver, Colo., Ron Kaska and wife, Linda, of Mt. Pleasant, and Ernest Kaska and wife, Darlene of Brighton, Colo.; four sisters, Marian Pohlit of Loveland, Colo., Marcella Greiner of Washington; Kay Swain and husband, Jerry, of Sarasota, Fla., and Connie Strabel and husband, Dave, of Denver, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Merlin, Gale, and Cletus Kaska; and one sister, Clarabelle Durian
