Read More	The Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE) Fri, Jul 15, 1927 - pg 1 'Dick' Arnold Dies on way To Hospital --- Concussion of Brain Causes Death of Edgar Youth Lawrence Arnold died Wednesday evening about 5:35 in the McGhie ambulance four miles south of York as he was being taken to the hospital where it was hoped that an operation would relieve the pressure on his brain. He had been sick since the Fourth of July when he received a severe shock from exploding firecrackers that caused concussion of the brain. Although he was quite sick his condition was not thought to be especially dangerous until Wednesday. It is probable that an abscess was caused by the pressure on his brain. When it was decided that he should go to the hospital Mr McGhie was called with his ambulance and Lawrence's father accompanied them. with Dr Thomas driving his car just behind them. When they were nearing York, Mr. Arnold noticed that Lawrence was having trouble breathing, and Mr. McGhie told him to elevate the head of the stretcher. When this did not relieve him they stopped and Dr. Thomas came to the ambulance at once, but Lawrence was too far gone for medical aid and he died within five minutes. They returned at once with the body and it was taken to the McGhie mortuary where it was prepared for burial. ------- Lawrence Earl Arnold was born at Salina, Kansas, March 1, 1910, and died on the way to the hospital, July 13, 1927, aged 17 years, 4 months and 12 days. Lawrence lived the first two years of his life at Salina, Kansas. The family then moved to Arkansas when they lived for a number of years. While living there his mother departed this life. The family moved to Edgar in 1920 where they have since resided. Lawrence was a good boy, well liked by all and a member of the Methodist Sunday School and an attendant of the Epworth League. Another young life has been caught away in the bloom. Heber says, "Death rides on every passing breeze, he lurks in every flower." We feel to say with Longfellow, "Oh, what hast thou to do with cruel death, who was so full of life, or death with thee, that thou shouldst died before thou hadst grown old." "How beautiful is youth, how bright it gleams, with illusions, aspirations and dreams. Book of beginnings, story without end, each maid a heroine and each man a friend but so suddenly cut off". The Bible says, "Remember, thy creator and the days of the youth", Richter says, "The youth of the soul is everlasting and eternity is youth". Lawrence leaves to mourn his passing, his father, one sister and one brothers, one half sister and three half brothers and many friends who will long remember his sunny disposition and pleasing manner. The funeral services will be held this (Friday) afternoon at the Methodist Church. Rev F. H. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Interment in the Edgar Cemetery.
