He was born September 4, 1916 in Lagro Township, Indiana, to Frank N. and Elizabeth (Martindale) Dawson. Lawrence married Louise W. Wright on March 9, 1941 in North Manchester and they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together in 2011. He graduated in 1934 from Lagro High School. He was born September 4, 1916 in Lagro Township, Indiana, to Frank N. and Elizabeth (Martindale) Dawson. Lawrence married Louise W. Wright on March 9, 1941 in North Manchester and they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together in 2011. He graduated in 1934 from Lagro High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wabash for more than 50 years. He farmed for 30 years, worked for Ford Meter Box 11 years, and was a receptionist at the Honeywell Center in Wabash 18 years. Lawrence played clarinet in the Lagro and Wabash bands. He became a Mason in 1946 and held four degrees, Chapter, Council, Comandry, and No 8 K.Y.C.H, and was past Master of Roann and Wabash lodges. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, and Wabash Shrine Club, and was a board member of the Wabash County Farm Bureau Credit Union for more than 15 years. Lawrence had a magnetic energy with children whom he loved very much. He is survived by his wife, Louise Dawson of North Manchester; brother, Clyde (Erma) Dawson of Urbana, Indiana; foster son, Dr. Norman (Cay) Long of West Lafayette, Indiana; four foster grandchildren, Christinia M. (Roger) George of Marietta, Georgia, Charles (Robin) Long of Sellersburg, Indiana, Cathy (David) Colbert of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Carrie Long of Los Angeles, California; three nieces, Shirley (Ron) Anderson of Urbana, Diane (Paul) Russell of Eaton, Indiana, and Nancy Jones of Brighton, Michigan; three nephews, Lennie (Donna) Stout of Wabash, Gary (Frankie) Dawson of Roann, and J.B. Stanley of Muncie, Indiana; niece-in-law, Janet Dawson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, (Martha Stanley, Find A Grave Memorial# 37311123) and (Ruth Stout, Find A Grave Memorial# 55178011), and his nephew, Dr. Keith Dawson. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 110 N. Cass Street, Wabash, on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Sue Babovec, Pastor David Cross, and Gary Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call Wednesday 4-7 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is First United Methodist Church of Wabash.
