Mr. Matney worked on the paint crew for the Kansas State Highway Department before retiring in 1971. He was born Sept. 7, 1911, in Richland, Kan., the son of Elmer and Bernice Norris Matney. He moved to Berryton, Kan., in 1951. he moved to Harbor Point, Texas, in 1981 and had lived in Brownwood for a year. Mr. Matney was a mmber of the Berryton United Methodist Church. Mr. Matney worked on the paint crew for the Kansas State Highway Department before retiring in 1971. He was born Sept. 7, 1911, in Richland, Kan., the son of Elmer and Bernice Norris Matney. He moved to Berryton, Kan., in 1951. he moved to Harbor Point, Texas, in 1981 and had lived in Brownwood for a year. Mr. Matney was a mmber of the Berryton United Methodist Church. He married Mary Maxine Losh in 1936 at Richland, Kan. She died in 1991. Survivors include a son, Galen Everett Matney, Big Fork, Mont.; six daughters, Mary Ann Jones, Early, Texas, Margaret Ann Blackwell, Plattsmouth, Neb., Lorene Sandry, Davenport, Iowa, Venita Renyer, Phoenix, Ariz., Sarah Lou Salyer, Dinuba, Calif., and Marsha Sue Gager, Prairie Grove, Ark.; two brothers, Clyde Elmer Matney, Topeka, Kan., and William "H.A." Matney, Berryton; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Mr. Matney will not lie in state. Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel, Topeka, is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, Kansas Affiliate, 5375 S.W. 7th St., Topeka, Kan., 66606-2395.
