A visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., with the family present from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and a Wake Service followed by a Rosary at 5:00 pm. Lawrence Joseph "Larry" Persing, the son of James S. and Mary L. (Schott) Persing was born November 7, 1918, in Milbank, SD. He attended country school in Montrose, SD. Larry lived in various towns in the area before moving to Sioux Falls. He was employed at the "Farmer's Market" gas station and then for Sweetman Construction. On June 15, 1948, Larry was united in marriage with Florence Flynn in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1954, Larry went to work for Peterson Oil Company, where he remained until 1990. He then went to the Gary Cone Service station for a few years before his retirement. Larry was a member of The Cathedral of St. Joseph and was very devoted to his family. Larry enjoyed woodworking and watching the Minnesota Twins play baseball. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 65 years, Florence of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Sheila (Lwellyn) Moller of Ramsey, MN, Rita (Richard) Behrens of Rapid City, SD, Linda (Jeff) Hillestad of Sioux Falls; a special niece/godchild, Marilyn (Ray) Quam of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Ardelle) Persing of Sioux Falls, Virgil (Mary) Persing of Minneapolis, MN; a daughter-in-law, Sabrina Persing of Sioux Falls; two sisters-in-law, Alice Persing of Worthington, MN, Grace Persing of Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roger; and 11 siblings, Helen, Francis, Leo, Ed, Bud, Laura, Irene, George, Richard, Louise, and Charles.
