He was born April 8, 1930 at Pella, the son of Dick and Alice VerMeer Langstraat. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the early 1950's. On June 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Eleanor McCarty at Oskaloosa. He worked at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella for several years, and then for Rolscreen Company (now Pella Corp) for over 32 years, retiring in February, 1991. Read More	Lawrence Langstraat, 76, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born April 8, 1930 at Pella, the son of Dick and Alice VerMeer Langstraat. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the early 1950's. On June 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Eleanor McCarty at Oskaloosa. He worked at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella for several years, and then for Rolscreen Company (now Pella Corp) for over 32 years, retiring in February, 1991. He was a member of Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, and God – family – friends were of utmost importance to him. He enjoyed reading; playing pool; farming; visiting with family and friends; and playing cards, especially the game: ‘cheat your neighbor'. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Ralph Langstraat, and a sister: Mabel Ryken. Funeral services for Lawrence Langstraat will be held Thursday, September 28, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Don DeGlopper officiating. There will be a Family Prayer Service Thursday at 1:15 p.m. in the fellowship hall in the basement of the church. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Wednesday after 10 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
