Mr. Rice was born in Rushville, IL on November 24, 1920, the son of George Wallace and Anna Mariah (Phillips) Rice. On February 9, 1946, he was united in marriage to Frances Vivian Hiner. Rice, 92, of Clarence, MO, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013, at Moberly Regional Hospital in Moberly. Mr. Rice was born in Rushville, IL on November 24, 1920, the son of George Wallace and Anna Mariah (Phillips) Rice. On February 9, 1946, he was united in marriage to Frances Vivian Hiner. They celebrated 56 yeas and 11 months of marriage before her death on January 7, 2003. He is survived by five children, three sons and two daughters; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife; three brothers, Paul Rice, Lloyd Rice and Howard Rice; two sisters, Dorothy Vanwinkle and Mary DeMoss; preceded him in death. Mr. Rice was of the Protestant Faith. He helped build the new Christian Church that is located on Highway 36. He was a faithful and working member of the church, and was involved for many, many years at the Clarence Care Center supervising the Sunday School Services there each Sunday morning. Mr. Rice attended the Rushville High School in Rushville, Il for 4 years, then enlisted in the army during World War II on August 29, 1942 and was discharged November 30, 1945. He served overseas in the South Pacific in World War II from October 1943 until he was discharged. He was a Corporal 5th Grade Technician and served as a Signal C Radio Operator with overseas campaigns of the Asiatic Pacific Area of New Guinea, Bismarck, Archipelago, southern Philippines, Leyte and Luzon. He was awarded four bronze stars, one arrowhead for the above campaigns, four overseas bars, good conduct medal and Pacific American Campaign and Philippines Liberation Ribbons. While in training to be a World War II Radio Operator at the Central Radio School in Kansas City, MO he met his wife, Frances in 1943 and they were married at the Swope Park Baptist Church in Kansas City. After their marriage in 1946, they lived on a farm in Rushville, IL for several yeas, then in 1954 they moved to Santa Paula, CA where they lived for two years while he worked at the Albert Thille Citrus Ranch until moving back to Clarence in January of 1957 to take over the farming operation of his wife's parents. Visitation was held Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in Clarence at the Funeral Chapel by Bro. Jim Bilbro and military services were held at the burial site. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence. Music was provided by Margaret Mealiff as pianist. The family suggest memorials to be made to the College of the Ozarks, at Point Lookout, MO.
