A passing motorist reported the discovery about 12:08 p.m. Saturday. Ripp was dressed in orange hunting clothes, and a hunting rifle was nearby. The preliminary investigation indicated that he suffered a bullet wound to the chest. Foul play is not suspected, and an autopsy was ordered by the Buffalo County Sheriff's Department as part of the investigation. Ripp worked for the Buffalo County Highway Department from 1986 until the summer of 2002. For the past few months, he had worked for Rochford Construction Co. Ripp was a 1962 graduate of Pleasanton High School and a 1969 graduate of Kearney State College.
