Description	:	Lawrence Thomas Perry was the son of Ezekiel Watson Perry and Mary Ann Bates Perry. At age 18,along with his brother Ezekiel Andrew Perry, he joined the Confederate forces at Camp Butler near Aiken, SC on Aug 12, 1861. He had both legs shot off at the battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA on May 12, 1864. He died of his wounds and typhiod fever in Richmond on June 11, 1864. He was at a hospital near Farmville, VA. It is unknown if he is buried somewhere in Virginia or if his body was brought back to Ridge Spring for burial.... Due to the expense and difficult travel of the time, it is doubtful that he was brought back home. The cemetery used in Farmville was neglected for years and there are no records of who is buried there. The cemetery tombstones were stolen in the 1920's, so all that's left is the wrought iron gate surrounding the cemetery and the 1812 medallion for Ezekiel Perry Jr's (Lawrence's grandfather) service in the War of 1812
