Born December 21, 1943 in Sharon, Kansas, he married Julia Stamm in 1978 with whom he made a home in rural Sharon for 38 years. Read More	Lawrence V. “Larry” Traffas, 72, passed away June 20, 2016 at Kiowa District Hospital in Kiowa, Kansas, of cancer of the tongue and throat. Born December 21, 1943 in Sharon, Kansas, he married Julia Stamm in 1978 with whom he made a home in rural Sharon for 38 years. Larry attended St. Boniface Grade School in Sharon, graduated from St. Joseph High School in Edgerton, Wisconsin, Mount San Antonio Junior College in Walnut, California and Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. He received a Registered Nurse Diploma from Asbury School of Nursing in Salina, Kansas. Larry served for 28 months in the United States Army during Vietnam. He worked as a registered nurse in various hospitals in Kansas for over 40 years, the last 24 years at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He also enjoyed working an Angus Cattle Ranch, south of Sharon, Kansas for 40 years. Larry was the son of George and Nora Traffas of Sharon, who preceded him in death, along with sister, La Vern McDonald from Bowie, MD and brothers, Leo from McMinville, OR, Melvin from Sharon, KS and Leon from Oklahoma City, OK. Survivors include his wife, Julia and son, Eric of Sharon; daughter, Rebecca and grandchildren Liam and Lorelei from Chester, VA. Other survivors include brothers, Robert and wife, Rowena of Damascus, OR and Dennis and wife, Dee of Mumford, TN; sisters: Sister Diane Traffas, OP of St. Catharine, KY, Marjorie Patterson and husband Andrew of LaQuinta, CA, Georgianne Couey and husband, Jim of Midwest City, OK and Ellen Peters and husband, Abe of Greensburg, KS; sisters-in-law, Jeannette Traffas of McMinville, OR and Karin Traffas of Sharon. Larry was also blessed with a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. Larry enjoyed the love and respect of his family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. He was a faithful and loving husband, a wonderful father, a beloved son, and unforgettable brother and friend and devoted nurse. His gift of humor and his ability to be other-centered were demonstrated bounteously during his last days. Today this world is poorer for Larry’s departure from it. As Jesus said of John the Baptist, “He was a burning and shining lamp and for awhile you were content to rejoice in his light.” John 5:35 Recitation of Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sharon, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony. Memorials may be made to the Health Foundation at Pratt Regional Medical Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003, is in charge of arrangements.
