Read More	PINE BLUFF COMMERCIAL SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 1998 Pine Bluff, Jefferson Co., Arkansas LAWRENCE TRUSSELL Lawrence Weems Trussell, 89, of Fordyce, died March 12, 1998, at Fordyce. He was born February 21, 1909, at Fordyce, son of the late L. L. Trussell and Blanche Wilkinson Trussell. He was a lawyer, state legislator and tree farmer. He graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1933. He practiced law with his first wife from 1934, when they were married, until 1973, when she died. He continued practicing until 1983. He was elected to the state Senate for two terms, from 1945 to 1953. He represented Cleveland, Dallas and Ouachita counties. He then was elected to the state House of Representatives for several terms, from 1953 to 1960 and from 1965 to 1966. While a legislator, he was a founding member of the Legislative Council, beginning in 1947, and served as chairman in 1949. One of the Major projects he worked on was a series of bills that modernized the state's basic election laws. They were passed in 1949. He was the first chairman of the Legislative Audit Committee. He sponsored bills that established the uniform commercial code and revised many property laws. He was a member of First Methodist Church at Fordyce and was the chairman of the board of trustees. He was a member of the Rotary Club and was president of the Fordyce School Board. He was a member of the board of directors at Fordyce Bank & Trust Company since 1952 and was chairman of the board of directors at First National Bank at Fordyce. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nona Lee Bryan Trussell, whom he married in 1934, and who died in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Josephine Ethridge Adair Trussell; a son, Dr. Thomas Trussell of Little Rock; a stepdaughter, Dr. Penny Ferguson of Arkadelphia; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchiidren. The funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Benton Funeral Home at Fordyce with the Rev. Larry Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Fordyce. ___________________________
