He was born May 7, 1923, at Reynolds, was a Reynolds High School graduate, attended Fort Wayne Business College, and had resided in Monticello most of his life. Read More	MONTICELLO - Lawrence William "Cobb" Vogel, 78, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in his residence. He was born May 7, 1923, at Reynolds, was a Reynolds High School graduate, attended Fort Wayne Business College, and had resided in Monticello most of his life. On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Alberta T. Graves in Kokomo; she survives. For more than 30 years, Mr. Vogel had owned Vogel Real Estate of Monticello. For 50 years, he was an auctioneer for real estate and household sales. He also had volunteered his auctioneering services for various White County United Way fund-raisers and Boy Scout and community events. Mr. Vogel served two terms on the White County Council and two terms on the Wabash Valley Hospital board. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic minister and collection counter for 15 years; Monticello Rotary Club, where he worked on many fund-raising projects; Knights of Columbus, where he had reached the 4th Degree and was a Grand Knight four years; Elks of Logansport and Tippecanoe Country Club of Monticello. He also served on the Monticello Chamber of Commerce, where he co-sponsored the financing of its new building. Among his awards and honors are Rotarian of the Year in 1996, National Auctioneers Hall of Fame Award in 1992, George Armstrong Spencer Award from the Monticello Chamber of Commerce in 1997, and Sagamore of the Wabash by former Gov. Robert Orr in 1982. For nine years, he played the organ at two Monticello nursing homes. He enjoyed golfing and playing bridge and euchre. Surviving with his wife are four sons, Gregory D. (Tammy) Vogel, Bruce W. (Carolyn) Vogel, Philip L. (Susan) Vogel, and Chris A. (Vicki) Vogel, all of Monticello; two sisters, Loretta Browning of Reynolds and Marie Burns of Monticello; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild. --Lafayette Journal & Courier - Mon 7/2/2001
