Description	:	PHOENIX and DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Lord has called one of his finest Christian gentleman home. Lawris M. "Bud" Harvey, 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep Dec. 5, 2012. Bud leaves a legacy of impeccable traits of character and unconditional love and devotion to his God, country and family. Born Feb. 12, 1922, the youngest of four sons to Ralph M. Harvey and Mary (Plummer) Harvey, Bud spent his youth with his twin brother and constant companion, Sheldon L. "Ted" Harvey. Bud leaves a legacy of impeccable traits of character and unconditional love and devotion to his God, country and family. Born Feb. 12, 1922, the youngest of four sons to Ralph M. Harvey and Mary (Plummer) Harvey, Bud spent his youth with his twin brother and constant companion, Sheldon L. "Ted" Harvey. The twins loved their Lawrence Street neighbors all while working a 120-home paper route they shared from childhood through high school. Bud was a 1941 graduate of Foxcroft Academy, where he was a three-sport athlete. Three Pony football teams went undefeated with Bud playing halfback and cornerback. He also was the president of his class and enjoyed drama club. Upon graduation, the Harvey twins enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After a tour in North Africa, Bud came home on leave and married his lifelong partner of 67 years, Vesta E. Smith at the Smith farm in Sangerville. After a honeymoon at their camp on Whetstone Pond, Bud went to San Bruno, Calif., and finished the war in the South Pacific. Bud owned and operated his own ice business after the war and purchased the old Whitings Creamery; converting it into his ice house. He served a 20-mile radius while harvesting his ice from Garland Pond, Harlow Pond and Milo River. The last "Ice Man" gave up his business in 1954 after the invention of refrigeration and went back to the family trade of finished carpentry. An extremely active member of United Baptist Church, Dover-Foxcroft, he dutifully held many positions including deacon, trus-tee and superintendent of Sunday school. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows was another passion Bud actively pursued becoming a 60-year member. Bud was also a 60-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion while also being the troop leader of Cub Scout Troop No. 100 and Little League coach. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Vesta E. Harvey; and three brothers, James M. "Bus" Harvey, Timothy N. "Tim" Harvey and Sheldon L. "Ted" Harvey. He is survived by a son, James W. Harvey and wife, Elizabeth, of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Margaret A. "Peggy" Reinhold and husband, Fred, of Phoenix; and three grandchildren, Dr. Jason T. Frye, D.O. and wife, Angela, of Mesa, Ariz., Jonathon D. Frye and wife, Tiffany, of Mesa, Ariz., and Sarah B. Harvey of Bradenton, Fla. Bud leaves three special great-grandchildren, Leah Rose Frye, Andrew Frye and Emily Frye, all of Mesa, Ariz. Bud would wish to recognize two special sisters-in-law, Elizabeth H. Harvey and Miriam F. Smith, both of Dover-Foxcroft. He also would wish to recognize and bless all his many special nieces and nephews. A joint graveside service for Bud and Vesta will be held in the Harvey site at Rural Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft.(Bangor Daily News posted 12/7/2012) Birth & death locations added by Shirley Mitchell, 30 Aug 2020.
