Burns 79, of rural Gilman, died on Wednesday, January 16, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center from complications of cancer. Services were held at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Rev. Edward H. Beck of the Gilman United Methodist Church officiated. He was born on January 25, 1911, in Tama County to William and Dessie Westerfield Dowell. He was later adopted by his grandparents, Edward and Deborah Burns. He was born on January 25, 1911, in Tama County to William and Dessie Westerfield Dowell. He was later adopted by his grandparents, Edward and Deborah Burns. He received his education in the area of his birth. On March 6, 1933, in Princeton, Missouri, he married Dora Paul. He farmed in Jasper County for more than 57 years. Mr. Burns was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church, the Cyrus Lodge 338, Signet Chapter 38, the Laurel Co-op, and he was the director of the Central Iowa Production Credit Association from 1959 to 1983. Preceding him in death were a son in infancy, a grandson, a granddaughter, and a brother. Survivors include his wife, Dora; two sons, Roger Burns and Ronald (Butch) Burns, both of Laurel; two daughters, Janet (Mrs. Clarence) Freese of Gilman and Linda (Mrs. Richard) Wilkening of Perry; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Aleatha (Mrs. Ora) Reel of Whitten, Maxine (Mrs. William) Schuler of Gilman, and Katherine (Mrs. Vern) Winters of Santa Paula, Calif.; and a brother, Leo Burns of Albion, Illinois Times-Republican, Marshalltown, Iowa - 17 Jan 1991
