Description	:	E. G., the son of Estelle Gordon Akers Sr. and Bertha M. Akers of Galax VA, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 13, 1969 in Roanoke VA. He arrived in Vietnam on February 4, 1970 and was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF. While checking a night position in the vicinity of the Phu Trach village complex in Que Son District a BT (Booby Trap) suspected to be a 105 mm artillery round was detonated resulting in LCpl Akers being killed instantly as a result of the blast and multi fragmentation wounds.
