She was born February 21, 1912 to Colonel Ellsworth and Grace Irene Stetter Ferguson in Sterling. Her family made their home in the Wages community southwest of Holyoke after 1914. Leah was one of six children. Her parents had five boys: Carl, Robert, Frank, Art and William (Bud). All have preceded her in death. She was born February 21, 1912 to Colonel Ellsworth and Grace Irene Stetter Ferguson in Sterling. Her family made their home in the Wages community southwest of Holyoke after 1914. Leah was one of six children. Her parents had five boys: Carl, Robert, Frank, Art and William (Bud). All have preceded her in death. The boys helped with the farming and Leah helped her mother in the house. The two of them provided the meals and housework for the boys and her dad. Leah was married to Clyde Sperber on February 23, 1936. Three sons were born to them: Don, Gary and Ray. They made their home southwest of Holyoke where they farmed until Clyde died in 1994. Leah was an active member of the Wages United Methodist Church until it closed. Following its closure, she became an active member of the Holyoke United Methodist Church. She was particularly active with the United Methodist Women of the church. She moved to Holyoke following her husband's death. Throughout her life she loved to bake and prepare meals for others. All who knew her loved her pies, her cinnamon rolls and her baked goods of any kind. She enjoyed having people to dinner. She was very hospitable and found delight in sharing with others. Her faith in God and her family were her greatest joy. Her three sons and their spouses, eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren survive her. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Holyoke with Rev. Darrell Dennis officiating. Interment was made in the Holyoke Memorial Park.
