Mrs. Moore, who was 82 years of age, passed away Monday evening, April 15, at the Logan County Hospital in Sterling. She entered Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke on March 21 after suffering a broken hip. She was taken to the hospital in Sterling on April 11 and underwent surgery there. As Leah Mary Stetter, one of nine children of John and Barbara Stetter, Mrs. Moore was born May 17, 1885, at Tecumseh, Nebraska. She came to Phillips County in 1904 as a teacher and taught in the country schools of Phillips and Yuma County for many years. She was one of the early homesteaders in the south part of Phillips County. On February 21, 1920 she was united in marriage to John H. Moore and they made their home on a ranch southwest of Paoli. After her husband's death, Mrs. Moore continued to operate the ranch for some years before moving to Holyoke. Mrs. Moore was an active member of the Holyoke Baptist church and the Epworth Grange in the Wages community southwest of Holyoke. Due to failing health, she had spent the past four years in nursing homes in Denver and at Sheridan Manor Nursing home in Holyoke. Surviving Mrs. Moore are several nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
