She was born in Bridgeport, July 3, 1913 to Edward Wallace and Leata (Gaines) Morris. The family moved and homesteaded on her grandfather's ranch near Twin Falls, ID and she attended school there. In 1930, she made her way back to the Wenatchee Valley and in 1931, she met her husband and lifelong companion, John Robert Baird who proposed to her on their second date and they celebrated 63 years together. Her greatest happiness was found in serving others. The motto that would best describe her is "when you are in the service of your fellow man, you are only in the service of your God." Her thoughtfulness truly blessed the lives of others. She generously enjoyed sharing her talent of sewing with anyone she could. She was an avid reader and a friend described her as a walking book of knowledge. She loved nature and found beauty in everything. Leah was a lifelong, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found great joy and happiness serving a full-time mission with her husband in 1976. Throughout her lifetime, she served in numerous callings in the church. Leah is survived by a daughter, Janet Lea (Baird) Miller of Wenatchee; a son Robert Nephi Baird and wife, Eileen of Poway, CA; two brothers, Wallace Morris of Moses Lake and Vern Morris of Napavine; six grandchildren, Chad A. Miller of Cashmere, Nicole O'Donnell of Seattle, David Baird of San Diego, CA, Michael Baird of Provo, UT, John Baird of Bilbao, Spain and Paul Baird of Poway, CA; six great-grandchildren, Camron Miller, Kyley Miller, Connor O'Donnell, Jeron O'Donnell, Gavin O'Donnell and Marcus O'Donnell; and a special caregiver and friend, Beverly McDowell. She was preceded in death by her husband John, in 1999, her parents and one brother, Lloyd Morris. Funeral Services for Leah will be held Monday, at 10 a.m., July 30, 2001 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in East Wenatchee, 667 10th St. N.E. President Randy Webb will be presiding. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. Viewing will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Jones & Jones Funeral Home in Wenatchee. Memorials may be made to Nauvoo Temple Building Fund. Jones & Jones Funeral Directors of Wenatchee are in care of the arrangements.
