Jenkins, sr., 75, Norfolk, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gass Funeral chapel with the Rev. Paul Hillman, Methodist pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the Columbus cemetery. Mr. Jenkins, formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday morning at his home in Norfolk. He had been ill since January. The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral chapel from 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service. Mr. Jenkins, only child of the late Edward and Elizabeth Turner Jenkins, was born May 2, 1879 in Madison county. He was a grandson of Judge Allen C. Turner who published the Columbus Journal for many years. He was educated in the Madison county schools and Columbus High school. As a young man he was employed in Columbus as a telephone lineman, and in 1916 he began farming in Madison county continuing in that work until his retirement in 1946. Since then he lived in Norfolk. Mr. Jenkins was a former member of the Madison county fair board and assisted with 4-H club work, spending some time as a leader. He also served as a director of the Rural Electrification Adminstration. He was married to Susan Bouton on June 30, 1915 in Madison and she and seven children survive him. The children are: Betty Jenkins, at home; Mrs. M.R. (Mary) Stroh of Fremont; Lee A. jr., of Lindsay; Edward of St. Edward; George T. of Roswell, S.D.; Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Strand of Nickerson; Elton of Norfolk. There are nine grandchildren. ---------------------- The Columbus Daily Telegram, June 12, 1954 JENKINS--Jenkins Rites - Funeral services for Lee A. Jenkins, sr., 75, Norfolk, were held Friday afternoon at the Gass Funeral chapel with the Rev. Paul Hillman officiating. Burial was in the Columbus cemetery. Pallbearers were Ambrose Masur, Rudy Maehnert, William Bickley, Francis Albracht, Ralph Kohl and Bill Konicek.
