Mr. Martin was the last of a family of nine children of Robert and Charity Martin, early pioneer settlers in this community. He was born on his parents' homestead 10 miles east of Holyoke and resided there until he was 11 years old. In 1900, the family moved to another farm five miles south of the original homestead and Mr. Martin lived there until moving to Holyoke five years ago. He was united in marriage at the age of 19 to Zelpha North. To this union was born one daughter, Fern, Mrs. Milton Deselms, of Holyoke. In 1912, Mr. Martin was married to Ruth Briggs and to this union three children were born, Glen Martin, Pearl, Mrs. Everett Jaycox, and Mable, Mrs. Wilmer Schiermeyer, all of the Holyoke community. Mr. Martin was united in marriage to Mable Harte in October, 1930, and one daughter, Betty, Mrs. Darryl Sullivan, was born to them. Surviving Mr. Martin are his wife; the five children already mentioned; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends. NOTE: Other records show his name as LeRoy "Roy" Martin. Mother's maiden name was Funkhouser. He signed his 1917 WWI draft registration card as: "Lee Roy Martin."
