Mr. Titus had been ill for some time but was taken worse last week Wednesday and was taken to Redfield, where heart trouble caused his death on Saturday morning at 3:00 o'clock. Lee Titus was born in 1860 in Richland Center, Wisconsin, and passed away April 7, 1928, at the age of 68 years. He received a good education and in 1880 at the age of 20 came to South Dakota, teaching school in Faulk county for a number of years and then taking up a homestead. In 1883 he moved to Spink county, buying the place 6 miles south and one mile east of Mellette where he spent the rest of his life. Mr. Titus taught school for a number of years. He was an exceptionally well educated man for those days and during his life, studied and read much. In 1903 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Callup, this couple having no children adopted a son, Elwin Titus. Mrs. Titus passed away four years ago last September. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Congregational church of Ashton, the Rev. Mr. Nelson officiating. The choir was composed of Mr. and Mrs. Coleman of Redfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Roberts of Ashton. The pallbearers were Maurice Young, Clark Young, Arthur Gallup, Elmer Gallup, Roy Gallup and Claire Gallup, all nephews of Mr. Titus. Burial was made beside his wife in the Ashton cemetery. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. Titus' sister, Mrs. Hattie Blauvelt and son of Milwaukee, and Elwin Titus, who also been in Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. E. Newton, Oscar Newton, Dr. and Mrs. E. Newton, F.A. Howe, Hart Cady, M. Albee, Mrs. T. Lobb, and Mrs. H. Hendrickson of Mellette attended the funeral.
