Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Pacolet Memorial Gardens, in Pacolet, SC. Visitation is 6-8 pm Tuesday at Whitner-Evans Funeral Home. Born Nov. 9, 1932, in Merna, NE, he was a son of the late Leo Albert and Jennie Elizabeth Lewis Duryea. He was a graduate of Wofford College and did Post Graduate Studies through the National Science Foundation. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Science educator in public and private schools and was a former Teacher of the Year. He was a member and former Sunday School superintendent at the First United Methodist Church for over 35 years. He was a member and Past President of the Bennettsville Lions Club and in 1995 was District Governor of Station 32-C. He was active in the Lions Club Leader Dog program. He was married to the late Mary Frances Stephen Duryea, who passed away March 7, 2003. Surviving are: sons, Vaughn Duryea, (Sheena), of Charleston, Stephen Duryea, of Columbia and Gill Duryea, (Julie), of Mansfield, OH, daughters, Anne Arca, (Vince), of Augusta, GA, Mary Cox, (Roy Sexton), of Shelby, OH, a brother, Vern Duryea, of Mason City, NE, sisters, Coralee Ann Haddix, of Boise, Idaho, Lorna Weimer, of York, NE, and Ida Lou Young, of Alamogordo, NM, 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a special friend Dorothy Ann Cumbey
