DON GRAY (Somers Correspondence) Funeral services were held here Saturday afternoon at two o'clock for Mrs. Don Gray, who passed away at Madsen hospital in Spirit Lake November 2, following an illness of several weeks. The body was brought Friday to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Mather, in Rockwell City, and Saturday morning to the home of Mr. Gray's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Gray, in Somers. The Rev. Earnest Redmayne, of Inwood, a former pastor here and an intimate friend of the Gray family, conducted the services, assisted by the local pastor, the Rev. S. J. Wallace. Mrs. Harry Lewis, Mrs. Elwood Brand, Floyd Richey and Horace Julius sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Anchored at Last," and "Going Down the Valley," Mrs. C. F. King accompanying at the piano. The pallbearers were Fay Amsden, Elwood Brand, Frank Sauer, Everett Djerf, Guy Moore and Frank Apley. The body was laid to rest in Greenfield cemetery. The front of the church was a mass of beautiful flowers, silent tributes of sympathy from the many friends of Mrs. Gray and her family. Lela I. Mather, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Mather, was born on a farm near Somers Sept. 13, 1890. Most of her life has been spent in this community. She attended school at Rockwell City and at Tobin college in Fort Dodge. After several years of successful teaching she was united in marriage to Don C. Gray (in 1911). To this union were born a daughter, Marjorie and a son, Harry, who with the husband are left to mourn. Surviving also are her parents, one brother, Elmer Mather, of Somers, two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Leimer of Port Byron, Ill. and Clara Mather of New York City. Mrs. Gray and her husband spent their early married life on a farm near Somers where their children were born. In 1929 the family moved to southern California. They returned to Iowa, locating in Cedar Falls. After a short stay there they moved to Spirit Lake where they have since made their home.
