Description	:	Lela M. Murphy, 91, of Newton died Sunday, April 4, 2010. The daughter of Evan and Meta (Bunse) Hardenbrook, Lela was born May 22, 1918, in Newton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1936. On Nov. 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Daniel C. “Dan” Murphy in Killduff, Iowa. Murphy, 91, of Newton died Sunday, April 4, 2010. The daughter of Evan and Meta (Bunse) Hardenbrook, Lela was born May 22, 1918, in Newton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1936. On Nov. 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Daniel C. “Dan” Murphy in Killduff, Iowa. After graduating from high school, she was a secretary for F.L. Maytag and then worked for the Draftboard. After she was married she was a farmer’s wife and homemaker and then in 1968 began working as a para pro for the Newton Community School District. She later was a caregiver at Peck Day Care, where she retired. She was a member of the Mariposa Merry Matrons, the local Farm Bureau, the County Farm Bureau, a long time member of the Zoar Church and then more recently the First Presbyterian Church. She had been a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening and in the past had decorated cakes. Lela was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Survivors include her son, Patrick D. (Sheryl) Murphy of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Paula Moore of Newton and Peggy D. (Fred) Sellers of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jason (Elizabeth) Moore, Michelle (Ken) Nepple, Rochelle (Chris) Crowder and Craig (Jessica) Sellers; a step-grandchild, Julie (Todd) Knudsen; his great-grandchildren, Ava and Nola Moore and Davis Nepple, and Connor and Carson Crowder; his step-great-grandchildren, Nick, Zach and Trevor; one brother, Dan (Marie) Hardenbrook of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel in 2005; and six brothers, Walter, Cleo, Lester “Hap,” Edward “Pete,” Elvin “Stub” and Paul Hardenbrook.
