Conley June 8, 1925 - April 16, 2018 Lela Sara Conley, 92, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2018, in Denver. She was born in 1925 in Plain City, Ohio, to Clair and Lovena Grimes. She graduated from Chambers High School in Chambers, Nebraska, and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Lela resided in Montrose for many years, where she worked at a law firm and then for the Bureau of Land Management. During this time Lela was actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as worthy matron. She also played piano for a local singing group. In Grand Junction and later in Denver, Lela worked as an auditor for the Farmers Home Administration. She was a long-time avid fan of the Denver Broncos. She was also a voracious reader, dearly loved her five cats, and enjoyed doing needlepoint and crocheting. Lela was preceded in death by her sister Arlene Coppoc and her brothers Edward Grimes and Milton Grimes. Lela is survived by her sons, Rob Conley of Centennial, Colorado; and Steve Conley of Indian Hills, Colorado. She was grateful for Ana Gamez's care and companionship over the years. And she treasured her 48-year friendship with Luretta Sharman of Cortez, Colorado, and all her visits with Luretta's family. A memorial service will take place at the Chambers, Nebraska, cemetery in the summer, where Lela's ashes will be buried next to her first husband, Calvin Crandall, who was killed during active military service in Europe during World War II. There will be a memorial service this summer at the Chambers, Nebraska, cemetery.
