Pallbearers will be Dr. Alvin Atwell Coleman III, James Clark Carroll, Gerald Hicks, William Liston Stokes, Jefferson Blakely Bates II, Leonard Lafayette Hutchison III, Scott Poston Floyd and Phillip Stephen Calcutt. Born December 24, 1917, he was the son of Mary Edal Wise and Leland Boyd Finklea. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Ethel Louise Munn Finkley, in October 1998. He attended the schools of Pamplico and was a member of the class of 1938 at Clemson. He was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School Superintendent. During World War II, Mr. Finklea served in the 84th Division, U.S. Infantry, in the European Theater. From November 25, 1944 to June 15, 1945, he was a German prisoner of war. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and retired as a Captain. Following the war, Mr. Finklea was a mail carrier with the U.S. Post Office for 37 years and a farmer throughout his life. In addition to being a past member of the VFW of Florence and American Legion Post #98 of Pamplico, he was a Mason and a member of Omar Shrine Temple. He was the first IPTAY representative from Florence County. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Patrick David (Mary Elizabeth "Maj") Partin of Camden and Mrs. John Elson (Georgia Christine "Tee Gee") Howard of Atlanta; grandchildren, David Andrew Partin of Wofford College and Camden, Elizabeth Louise Partin of Camden, Mary Grace Howard, John Finklea Howard, Georgia Anne Howard, Sarah Louise Howard, Virginia Christine Howard, and Thomas Robert Howard, all of Atlanta; godchildren, Murriel Coleman Calcutt of Pamplico and Amy Smith Askins of Friendfield; a number of nieces and nephews; faithful companions, Olivia Jackson and Wanda Fleming. He was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Finklea Tomlinson of Columbia. Memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 784 N. Pamplico, SC 29583; Pamplico Rescue Squad, P.O.
