Description	:	Leland Dale Bredthauer, 86, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island, with the Rev. Thomas Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Cairo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Leland Dale Bredthauer was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Mira Valley, south of Ord, the son of D. Herbert and Mildred (Wells) Bredthauer. He attended parochial school in Mira Valley and later school in Scotia, graduating from Wood River High School in 1948. He was united in marriage to Betty Helen Peters, Sept. 20, 1953, in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Wood River, where he farmed until his retirement. He later worked at the north Walmart store in Grand Island. His wife, Betty, preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1992. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Grand Island, District 16 school board, the Harrison township board and was active as a 4-H leader for many years. Those left to cherish his memory include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Cindy Bredthauer of Wood River, Dr. Bryan and Trudy Bredthauer of Omaha; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Annette Bredthauer and Terry Marcotte of Belleville, Kan.; six grandchildren, Jacob Bredthauer, Kendra Miller and fiance, Brent Reith, Kristen Swiercinsky, David Bredthauer, Rose Bredthauer and Eric Bredthauer; and a brother, Vernon Bredthauer of Grand Island.
