Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23rd, at the Liscomb Church of Christ with Rev. Troy Emley officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery at Steamboat Rock after a lunch with the family at the church. Born Leland Gerald Bittner on February 18th, 1927, at Union, Iowa, he was the son of Oliver and LaVada (Hammer) Bittner. He received his education in the Union Public Schools. On January 28th, 1953, at Union, Iowa, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Johnson. They made their home at Liscomb where he was employed as building custodian/maintenance at the Liscomb School and was a member of the Liscomb Church of Christ. Mr. Bittner retired in 1987 from Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. Leland enjoyed meeting with his friends at the Gingersnap in Union and drinking coffee, watching basketball and football, the Iowa Hawkeyes, music and going out to eat with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by them all. Left to cherish his memory are JoAnn, his loving wife of 57 years, sons: Greg (Paula) Bittner of Eldora and Scott Bittner (LeeAnn Switzer) of Union, grandchildren Jeff Bittner (Trina Stringer), Heather Bittner (Cory Ratliff), Adrian (Joey) Bloomer and Grant Wallace, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, five brothers and seven sisters.
