Donald W. Gibson officiating. Music was furnished by organist Mrs. Dennis Mein and vocalists, Mrs. Albert Ohden and Mrs. Ted Bruns. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Boeckman, Delane Fredrichs, Merle Dumdei, Sherman Bromley, Mark Auen and Clyde Ames. Leland passed away at the Manning Hospital on April 4, 1979 after a prolonged illness. Leland Harold Corn was born July 20, 1915, at Vail, Iowa, the son of Franklin and Millicent Harrison Corn. He was united in marriage to Helen Kowalke on February 18, 1941, at Sac City. They were the parents of two children, Ed and Marie, and made their home in Wall Lake. Leland was a dragline operator for Hallett Construction Co. for 22 years. He previously served as a volunteer fireman in Wall Lake, was a member of the American Legion and coached Legion baseball teams. He was a veteran of World War II and fought in the battles of Normandy in Northern France and Ardennes Rhineland in Central Europe. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon and four overseas service bars. On March 28, 1976, Leland was united in marriage to Bilda Janssen Tiefenthaler at Carnarvon, Iowa, where they then made their home. Leland had been a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Wall Lake, and for the last three years was a member of Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church of Carnarvon, Iowa, where he had been serving as a trustee. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, two brothers, Albert and Frank, and one sister, Naomi. He is survived by his wife, Bilda; his son Ed and wife Cora and their two children, Carla Sue and Leland William, all of Calhan, Colo.; his daughter, Marie and husband Merlin Whiteing and their two children, Charles Andrew and Jane Marie of Mapleton, Iowa; and the children of his sister Naomi: Lucille Borton, Elaine Wesser and Glen Hansen.
