WILL REED DIED MONDAY FOLLOWING LONG ILLNESS Lemma Lucinda, daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Mendenhall, was born at Ottumwa, Iowa, on July 27, 1885. She attended the public schools of Ottumwa and later spent two years in attendance at the Central Holiness University at Oskaloosa, Iowa. It was there that she met William S. Reed. There on July 28, 1909, they were united in marriage. In the autumn of the same year they came to Yuma county so that practically their whole home life has been in this community. Mrs. Reed was bereaved of her mother when she was only one and one-half years old, and was reared by her grandmother, Mrs. Francis Lucinda Rupe. Her father died when she was only fifteen years of age. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Reed and with their father mourn the passing of the heart of their home. Besides these Mrs. Reed is survived by a brother, Charles Mendenhall; and a sister, Mrs. Myrta Tyrrell, both of Salem, Oregon. For many months Mrs. Reed had been a sufferer and had been in hospitals most of the time for the past six months. She closed her eyes in sleep at the Colorado General hospital at 5:00 o'clock in Monday morning, Sept. 23, 1935. In early life she accepted Jesus as the Lord of her life and united with the Methodist church. Her college training was for definite religious service. When she came to this community she placed her membership with the M. E. church at Vernon and later when the family moved to Wray her name was added to the roster of the church here. Four years ago she and her children united with the Christian church. She was recognized for her devotion and her willingness to help any time, anywhere. In the Women's Council, in her Bible class, in the church services, in the music at church, at funerals and on special occations, her talent and time she freely gave. How we shall miss her, "Yes, I'll do the best I can." Such lives are all too rare, fine talent, beautiful spirit! "I cannot say and I will not say That she is dead -. She is just away.
