Read More	Creston News Advertiser July 12, 1943 Mrs. Lena Schroder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Queck, was born Dec. 14, 1883 in Coburg, Germany and came with her parents at the age of three months and located near Mendota, Ill. At the age of seven years they moved to Iowa near Fontanelle. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Fontanelle. On April 30, 1902 she was joined in wedlock with Alfred Schroder. They became the parents of five children; Paul E. Schroder of Cromwell, Emma H. Blazek of Prescott, Margaret E. Simpson of Dolliiver, Iowa, and Alfred C. Schroder of Des Moines and Rudolph Carl, who died in infancy. She lived in the vicinity of Adair and Union counties all of her married life with the exception of six years when they lived at Armstrong, Iowa. In 1938 they moved to Creston, Iowa, where they have since made their home. "Mom" as she was called by her many friends in Creston will be greatly missed with her cheery smile and kind words for everyone. She was a loving wife, mother and sister and enjoyed nothing more than to have her grandchildren with her. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in sickness and death and never complained of her own sickness for fear of placing a burden on others. Within the last three years she has spent many days in bed, but was feeling so much better the last few months. On Monday, June 28th, she became suddenly ill and was taken to the Greater Community hospital and underwent a major operation, from which she did not recover and passed away Tuesday at 4:05 a.m. at the age of 59 years, 7 months and 22 days. Surviving relatives include her husband, Alfred H. Schroder and four children, Paul of Cromwell, Iowa, Mrs. Joe Blazek of Prescott, Iowa and Mrs. Francis Simpson of Dolliver, Iowa; Alfred of Des Moines; also seven grandchildren, six brothers, Charles, Fred, August, Paul, Henry and Ernest Queck all of Fontanelle and three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Sieg and Mrs. Lillie Baudler of Fontanelle, and Mrs. Freda Balius of Des Moines; also many nieces and nephews. A sister, Mrs. Emma Freeman, preceded her in death in 1919.
