Lena was born February 21, 1911 in Alcona, MI to Jasper and Minnie (Johnson) Evans. Lena moved to Bay County in 1922. Lena loved helping people and led a very active life. She was a retired teacher and had worked at the former Prestolite Company and at the Bay County Division on Aging. Lena was born February 21, 1911 in Alcona, MI to Jasper and Minnie (Johnson) Evans. Lena moved to Bay County in 1922. Lena loved helping people and led a very active life. She was a retired teacher and had worked at the former Prestolite Company and at the Bay County Division on Aging. Lena was an active volunteer for Bay Arts Council and is best remembered for collecting donations during the concerts at the World Friendship Shell. Lena and friend, Nate Doan, were honorary chairs of the Bay Area Community Foundation Riverwalk Drive. Lena made the first gift to the Foundation's Education Endowment Fund. Lena also volunteered with the A.A.R.P., The Historical Society and Bay Medical Auxiliary. She was a life member of Bay Chapter #219 O.E.S. Lena gave talks on antiques and collectibles. Lena married John Hittel on May 30, 1936. He predeceased her on November 18, 1970. She was also predeceased by two half brothers and by her-in-laws, George and Freda Hittel. To have so many friends, one must BE a good friend. Lena was not only a good friend, she was a loyal friend. She so enjoyed your cards, letters, phone calls, visits, eating out, rides around town, music, keeping up on current community progress, working on estate sales, holiday companionship and helping each other by sharing talents and chores. When she had to give up driving, her 'cabbies' became very dear to her because of their special care.
