Description	:	Lena Irene Griffin (July 15, 1921 - November 6, 2014) Lena Irene Evans Griffin was born July 15, 1921, near Strawn, Kansas, the daughter of A.E. and Laura Sime Williamson. Lena graduated from Strawn High School and went on to Cosmetology School. She worked as a secretary in Judge Orville Steele's office, the Coffey County Republican, and the LeRoy Reporter. Read More	Lena Irene Griffin (July 15, 1921 - November 6, 2014) Lena Irene Evans Griffin was born July 15, 1921, near Strawn, Kansas, the daughter of A.E. and Laura Sime Williamson. Lena graduated from Strawn High School and went on to Cosmetology School. She worked as a secretary in Judge Orville Steele's office, the Coffey County Republican, and the LeRoy Reporter. She was a member of the Burlington Christian Church, where she had taught Sunday school for over 50 years. Lena married Wayde Evans in 1941, at Emporia, KS. They were the parents of 2 daughters and a son. Wayde died June 18, 1953. She later married Myrl Griffin in 1976, at Vinita, OK. He died on May 17, 1985. Lena died Thursday morning, November 6, 2014, at the Coffey County Hospital. Lena was preceded by her parents, 3 brothers, and 5 sisters. Lena is survived by her son, Gary Evans, Chandler, OK, two daughters, Beth Vincent and her husband Jim, Scott City, KS and Brenda Sleezer and her husband Lloyd, Burlington, KS, two sisters, Bessie McCarty, Emporia, KS and Jean Richards, Torrance, CA, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, other relatives and friends. As to her wishes, Lena was cremated. A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Burlington Christian Church. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Burlington Christian Church or Hand in Hand Hospice, and maybe sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
