Description	:	WOMAN USES SHOTGUN TO END LIFE IN HOME Mrs. Charles Dodd, 40, 906 North Fifth avenue, took her own life by shooting herself with a single barrel .12 gauge shotgun Friday afternoon, according to Dr. D. Dale Harris, county coroner. Dr. Harris' investigation disclosed that Mrs. Dodd evidently placed her husband's shotgun on the kitchen table of the family home and then used a long handled cooking fork to pull the trigger, sending a shot into her chest on the left side. Dr. Harris' investigation disclosed that Mrs. Dodd evidently placed her husband's shotgun on the kitchen table of the family home and then used a long handled cooking fork to pull the trigger, sending a shot into her chest on the left side. DIED INSTANTLY She died instantly, said the coroner. The recoil of the gun knocked a hole in the kitchen wall. Dr. Harris placed the time of the shooting between 4 and 4:30 p.m. No one else was in the house, her son, Charles, Jr., being at school and her husband at work. The body was discovered about 4:45 by a neighbor girl. No note has been found and no explanation was given for Mrs. Dodd's taking her own life. NO INQUEST SET Police were called to make an investigation but Coroner Harris said no inquest is planned. Mrs. Dodd was born Lena Bacon, April 12, 1906, in Marion county, the daughter of Giles and Ada Bacon. She attended the public schools at Swan and spent her early childhood there. Later the family moved to Forest City. On Sept. 23, 1922, she was married in Mason City to Charles Dodd. They lived there until 1934, moving to Nevada and in 1944, to this city. She was a member of the Methodist church. MANY SURVIVORS Surviving besides the widower and son are one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Perry, R.F.D. Collins; her father, Giles Bacon, Boone; five brothers Ensign Garnet Bacon of the U.S. Navy, New York City, Giles, Jr., living in Oregon, Otis of Bakersville, Calif., Herman of Melcher, Iowa, and Wayne of the U.S. merchant marine; four sisters, Mrs. P.K. Long of Boone, Mrs. Esther Lofton of Des Moines, Mrs. Doris Goodman of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Gladys Williams of Milwaukee, Wis., and two grandchildren, Judy and Jim Cowan. Services will be held at the Estel funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in charge of Rev. A.J. Kindred, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial will be in Riverside. -------------------------
